How to choose what to buy

1. First time: start with samples. The Build Your Own Sample Pack lets you pick your scents and includes an applicator. The Mix and Match Bundle and Most Popular Samples bundle each give four samples and two applicators. Samples come in the same refillable jar as the full-size, so you keep using them.
2. Found your scent: get a full-size or go straight to refills. A full-size comes with an applicator. Refills hold the same amount of powder (1.0 oz) and come in a cardboard tube, or in a new metal jar at no extra cost. Refills do not include an applicator. Any Mineralized jar, sample or full-size, can be refilled.
3. Regular user: buy refills in bulk. The Refills Value Pack (4 or more refills) has the lowest cost per day. Refills can also be set up as a subscription.
4. Extras: the applicator is sold separately if you want a spare, for example one per scent.

Premium scents (Sandalwood, Rose, Blue Tansy and Vetiver) cost a little more because their essential oils are much more expensive. Current prices are on each product page and in all products.

How it works

Body odor is largely caused by bacteria that live on your skin. They feed on sweat from the apocrine glands, which carries fatty acids, proteins and other compounds, and their waste products are what smell. Mineralized's minerals target and neutralize those odorous byproducts. The reaction is fast: if you applied it after you had already started to smell, the odor would fade almost immediately.

Some of the minerals also absorb moisture, which gives a slight dry feel. That is not the same as blocking sweat: you still sweat normally.

After years of customer data we know it works for most people, but not for about 5%. Our best explanation is that some people produce odor through a different or additional mechanism that these minerals don't neutralize.

How to apply

1. The first time, press the loose powder down with the applicator so it becomes a pressed powder. This cuts mess a lot.
2. Dip the applicator into the powder and scrape a little off on the edge of the jar, leaving about one thin coating.
3. Pat (don't rub) the powder onto your underarm, covering the folds at the front and back. One thin coating per underarm is a good starting point.
4. Some people apply with their shirt already on, so the powder doesn't rub off while dressing.
5. Don't layer it with other deodorant products.

Common concerns

What if it doesn't work for me?

It doesn't work for about 5% of people. Before giving up, check the basics: a thin coating, patted on, covering the front and back folds, and not layered with another product. Some people reapply on long, hot or high-exertion days. If it still doesn't work, the 45-day returnless refund gives you your money back (up to $100) with nothing to ship.

Is it messy?

Powder can be messy at first. Pressing the powder the first time, using a thin coating, and patting instead of rubbing solve most of it. It is less convenient than a stick for touch-ups away from home.

Isn't it expensive?

The jar costs more up front than most sticks, but it's a concentrated powder with no wax or filler, so a little goes a long way. A full dose lasts about 3–6 months, which works out to about $0.17–0.25 per day on refills, or as little as $0.14 per day with the Refills Value Pack.

Does it stain clothes?

Many customers report no staining, including on dark clothing, and the powder is designed to brush off fabric. Some people notice white residue or transfer, which brushes off. We can't rule out staining in every situation, so it's worth watching delicate fabrics at first.

How Mineralized compares

Most deodorants are sticks, creams or gels built on waxes, oils or other carriers. Mineralized takes a different approach: the formula is mostly magnesium and calcium compounds, minerals the body already uses, with a trace of jojoba oil and nothing else except scent. In practice that means:

• Different from baking-soda deodorants: a pH of about 7.5 instead of about 9, which is gentler for many people with sensitive skin.
• Different from antiperspirants: no aluminum, and no sweat-blocking. It works on odor only.
• Different from typical sticks: no wax or oil base, so no greasy feel and less residue on clothes. The trade-off is a short learning curve and less convenient touch-ups.
• Refillable: the aluminum jar is kept and refilled from a cardboard tube.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you test on animals?

No, we do not, and we have confirmed with our suppliers that they don't either. Mineralized is also vegan.

Why a powder?

We chose a powder to stay true to our values of selecting ingredients for safety and effectiveness. Synthetic chemicals are commonly used to make sticks, gels and creams, and we wanted to avoid them. A powder lets us leave them out.

Where is it made, and where do the materials come from?

It is made in Englewood, Colorado, USA, and ships from there. We buy the powder ingredients from an American distributor; they originate in Japan (magnesium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, magnesium oxide) and China (calcium carbonate). The essential oils come from Canadian and French distributors, who source them from many countries. The packaging comes from China: we looked for US suppliers, but as a small business we ran into minimum-order sizes we couldn't meet and much higher prices. We hope that changes one day.

How long does it last?

A full-size or refill (1.0 oz) lasts about 3–6 months with daily underarm use. A Big Sample (0.4 oz) lasts about 4–6 weeks. These estimates come from customer feedback and buying patterns; actual use varies. That works out to about $0.17–0.25 per day on refills, or as little as $0.14 per day with the Refills Value Pack, which is comparable to other premium natural deodorants.

Will it work with hairy armpits?

Yes. Many customers don't shave their underarms and use Mineralized successfully. We suspect it may even work slightly better, because the hair holds the powder in place instead of letting it rub off on clothes. You may need slightly more powder to get full coverage.

How much should I apply?

It takes a little trial and error. A good starting point is one thin coating on the applicator for each underarm: dip the applicator, scrape a little off on the edge of the jar, and pat it on.

Is it an antiperspirant? How does it affect sweating?

Mineralized is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant. Antiperspirants use aluminum salts to temporarily block sweat glands; Mineralized contains no aluminum and works by neutralizing odor. Some of its minerals absorb moisture, which gives a slight dry feel, but it does not reduce sweating. If you need to stop sweating on certain days, an antiperspirant is the right tool for those days.

Does Mineralized contain parabens, phthalates or lilial?

No.

Do you test for heavy metals?

Yes. The results, in ppm: cadmium, mercury and arsenic below 0.001; lead 0.001. The certificates are on our ingredients page.

What is the pH of Mineralized?

About 7.5 when mixed with 30 ml of water, which is slightly basic. For reference, water is 7.0 and baking soda, measured the same way, is about 9.0.

How do I clean the applicator?

Rinse it several times with water, and use a mild soap if needed; if you use soap, rinse thoroughly. The applicator swells when wet and shrinks back as it dries. Drying takes about 24–36 hours depending on how much water you squeeze out and the heat and humidity, so dry it somewhere well ventilated. In a pinch, a clothes dryer on low or medium heat (not with whites) speeds it up without damaging the sponge.

What is the applicator made of?

70% biodegradable polyurethane foam, free of latex, similar to the foam in furniture, mattresses and yoga mats. It is inert and very durable; some of ours are going on four years old. It is the least eco-friendly part of the product, and we are testing alternatives.

Does the aluminum jar leach into the product?

No. Aluminum metal quickly forms a very thin layer of aluminum oxide when exposed to air, and that layer protects the metal and doesn't react except under unusual conditions, such as a strongly alkaline liquid. This is chemically very different from the aluminum salts in antiperspirants. Our manufacturers agree there is no reason to expect aluminum to leach into the powder.

Why did you switch from coconut oil to jojoba oil?

We learned that more people are sensitive to coconut oil than we expected, and many don't know it. Jojoba oil, which we already used in our Sensitive version, agrees with more people, so in May 2024 we switched all scents to it after testing. An unscented coconut oil version is still available by special request.

Does Mineralized contain nano-sized powders?

No. We're aware of the potential concerns with inhaling nano-sized powders and don't use them. A particle-size report for the ingredients is on our ingredients page.

Is Mineralized safe for all skin types?

Since we launched in 2020, a handful of customers (about 1 in 1,000) have had a mild reaction, a slight reddening of the skin. If that happens, stop using it and contact us.

Is Charcoal Unscented more absorbent than Sensitive Unscented, and does it stain light clothing?

Early feedback and testing suggest it absorbs more moisture, which we'd expect from the very porous structure of activated charcoal. We tested it on white cotton t-shirts for about three months and saw no staining; the amount of charcoal is low. We haven't tested other fabrics, so we suggest some caution there. As of April 2025 we had received no staining complaints.

How do I know it's safe? Is it regulated?

In the US, deodorants are regulated by the FDA as cosmetics. The FDA doesn't pre-approve cosmetics, but makers are responsible for their safety, and since the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 they must also be able to show evidence of safety and report serious adverse events. Our approach goes further on first principles: we built the formula from simple mineral compounds whose building blocks, magnesium and calcium, the body already uses and knows how to handle. Magnesium hydroxide and calcium carbonate are also widely used as antacids. Long-term studies on personal-care ingredients are rare for every brand, so we choose ingredients with the longest and simplest safety record we can find.

What if I don't like the scent I chose?

Choosing scents online is hard. If you try a new scent and really don't like it, email us and we'll send a replacement, give store credit, or refund it.

What if it doesn't work for me?

   First, the deodorant works! I am a perimenopausal woman who sweats a lot due to hot flashes, and I have a teenage son who is an athlete. We are both happy with how the deodorant controls odor. We have both had to reapply most days (summer), but as natural deodorant users, we are used to that. I did feel a slight burning sensation the first time I applied it (I had just shaved). I changed to patting the powder in instead of rubbing it in, and that seems to have made the difference. Now, for the scents. I tried lavender and sage. My son tried sandalwood and wild black spruce. He loves the sandalwood and he likes the spruce. I love the lavender. The sage was disappointing. It has a camphor smell to it that makes it unbearable for either of us. Sadly, I don't smell sage in it at all. The powder is too messy to reapply at work or school (even after pressing it), so we will continue to carry our deodorant sticks in our bags, but we are thrilled with the performance of this deodorant and will be ordering full size refills of sandalwood and lavender. For performance reference, my son says this controls odor better than his Pete & Pedro stick, and I feel this performs better than my Each and Every stick (which has been my favorite by far - and believe me, I have tried them all).

   This is the third or fourth natural deodorant I've tried and by far my favorite so far. I got the sample pack and found the scents to be fresh and really lovely without being overpowering (or under powering!) My pits are always nice and dry at the end of the day (I'm not a heavy sweater, but still noticed a positive difference from the other natural options). You can use the sponge to compress the powder if you want (my preferred method) and then the sponge fits neatly into the tin. Added bonus: I found I like the tin shape better than a traditional deodorant shape for traveling. It just seems to be more space efficient. And it's super satisfying that the tin is refillable <3 zero waste, baby!

   I promised a full review after using the deodorant during the hot and humid days of summer. It failed to last a full day at a temperature of 101°F and higher humidity, but that was the only time I detected any odor at the end of the day. I doubt there is any deodorant out there that could last a full day under those conditions. The situation I was in didn't allow me to reapply as I would have wished. I usually reapply after a sweaty workout and that helps keep odor away. I wish this product had been available years ago, I never would have turned to aluminum based antiperspirants. I can take some wetness, but not odor. I am very satisfied with this product and will be purchasing more when I run low. The reusable sponge and metal container are an improvement over plastic containers that really can't be recycled well. I don't miss the white film that would transfer to my clothing. I also don't miss needing to hold my arms away from my body to allow the antiperspirant or deodorant to dry before getting dressed. I highly recommend this product. I am glad I found it, it works better than several other natural deodorants I tried before.

   I have tried many different deodorants, including Lume, Native, and others that come in different forms, and this is the only one that has actually seemed to work for me. It's the only one that seems to actually eliminate odor all day, for me at least. This is quite a relief. The powder does not seem to leave any residue or stains on my clothes either. I really like that powder comes in metal tins and refills come in cardboard, so no trash to throw away and less environmental impact from packaging (the applicator is still some kind of spongy synthetic thing, but what can you do. I wonder if it would work the same with some kind of cloth applicator. May try.)

   I'd been using an unscented natural mineral roll-on or stone, or a name-brand unscented stick w/ "natural deodorizers," for YEARS, and they worked fine. Over the last few years my pit smell got really strong, like talk-to-my-doc strong, and I got hormones and stuff tested (nothing abnormal...fairly certain the strong smell was due to low-grade, continuous stress...it's being addressed, dear reader). I could shower in the evening, apply deodorant, and wake up the next morning stinky! Shirts became strictly single-use before needing to be laundered.    This is the best option for plastic free antiperspirant that I have found. It doesn't keep me as dry as typical antiperspirant (like Degree or Suave) but it works a lot better than the natural deodorants at dryness. The scent doesn't last very long, I typically reapply halfway through the day or else I start smelling myself a bit. The cherry blossom and sandalwood are my favorite scents.

   Mineralized deodorant checks all the boxes of what I look for in a natural product and avoids all the ingredients that I don't want absorbed into my body. I love the sustainable packaging, ease of application, and its effectiveness at neutralizing odor! It also doesn't permanently stain my clothes, which other coconut oil-based deodorants have failed at (this is why I'm more than happy to pay the higher price tag). I also have sensitive skin which prevents me from using products with baking soda, so finding an effective and non-irritating natural deo has been difficult.     My husband always smelled immediately when he started sweating. We tried other products (Lume/Mando) and after using it a couple of weeks he broke out in horrible hives under his arms.     I've been using this for only 5 days, but immediately noticed a huge difference. It has been much more effective than not only aluminum free deodorant, but regular deodorant as well. Before this, I would smell bad just a few hours after applying deodorant. Now, there is no noticeable smell even after hours of outdoor activity in the Texas summer. I even had to skip a shower one day and still smelled fine. I've also had no rash or irritation like with many other deodorants. I even took up their suggestion of using it as dry shampoo one day, which worked much better than my regular spray version. If this continues to work, I will certainly order a full size container after this sample runs out.

    I have used Native, Little Seed Farm, Dove Naturals, Crystal and others. Some worked against stink but left my armpits rashy after months of use and others never battled the stink. I transitioned from antiperspirant many years ago and am glad I did but have struggled to find the best match for my pits. Mineralized is a miracle!!! This stuff not only smells amazing (I have tried Cherry Blossom and Jasmine) but it works incredibly well! After applying in the early morning, working out, going to work, doing a second workout and sleeping, the next morning I am still fresh as a daisy without reapplying!!! I can't speak highly enough about this stuff. The bonus is it doesn't stain clothing with the natural oils that others have in them. It also seems to control my sweat which has been minimal since becoming a natural deodorant user. It is expensive up front but lasts forever following the directions and is well worth every penny.     I wasn't sure how a powder deodorant would work out but this REALLY works—surpasses any other natural deodorant I've tried. I've only used 'natural' 'non toxic' deodorants for decades now but I haven't found one that truly kept me fresh for hours, or one where I wouldn't have breakthrough stink lol.     I work in kitchens and walk everywhere so I can easily build up some ...natural scent... I had gone over a decade without wearing traditional deodorant relying on natural perfume. Of course the mixture of patchouli and natural human smell is not a favorite to many people. The perfume would sometimes interfere with my tasting for nuanced flavors.     I ordered samples of the Rose and the Vanilla. I tried them both out today (one scent under each arm). I work outside and it was a hot sunny day, so I was really sweaty by the time I got home. But I didn't smell bad at all! I did refresh and reapply since I had been sweating, but it's great to know it works. I also love that it feels clean when applied. I like both scents, I like the Rose slightly better than the Vanilla, but they are both nice. I ended up mixing them together and that smells great too. I'll definitely be back for more when it runs out.

   I really wanted to love this deodorant, as I loved the plastic free packaging, natural ingredients, and scent selection. However, after trying all 4 scents in my sample pack for 4 months, I do not notice any deodorizing effect. Within a few hours of showering and applying, I notice significant body odor. This is most pronounced when I have a small amount of hair in my armpits, but even occurs the day of and days after epilating all hair. I've tried exfoliating beforehand, applying when armpits are still slightly wet out of the shower, applying after using benzoyl peroxide, applying a second time 15 minutes after original application for a second layer, etc. and have not found any of these methods make it more effective.

2. I wanted to love this

   I wanted to love this deodorant so badly. Non-toxic and very low waste—such promise. Unfortunately, it just didn't work for me. I gave it 2 months of adjustment, but it just never prevented odor well enough. I'd come home from work and have to take a shower and reapply because I smelled so bad. Some pros are that it doesn't stain clothing, and it feels very nice on my skin. I love the delicate, natural scents. I actually liked the application process. I also have used it on other parts of my body like my feet when I didn't wear socks, and my thighs and it actually worked pretty well there. But, it just wasn't enough for under my arms.

   I like the smell (pink grapefruit and bergamot) but it just didn't work for me. I had to apply it 3 times a day not to stink. The second day I used a lot more each time. I made sure to get every nook and cranny. And still, I had to reapply in the afternoon and before bed. It was great right up until it wasn't. I'm going to try it on other, non-armpit areas and see how it goes. I'm back to using Lume and I'll hang on to Mineralized for touchups on the second Lume day or something.

4. Unfortunately doesn't prevent or eliminate odor

   I'm trying to eliminate essential oils since they can disrupt the microbiome and give me rashes, so I was really intrigued by this product and appreciated that it came in an unscented version. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me, which was disappointing.

   PROS: Unscented option; Did not irritate skin, even when applied multiple times a day

   CONS: Didn't prevent odor; Didn't fully eliminate odor when reapplied (this would be a hassle to reapply outside the home); Messy (powder gets on the counter, my hands, the floor and my bra despite being careful, which is not only annoying but wastes product); Pricey (I do not think this would last me 5-8 months with the number of times I kept reapplying, and thoroughly applying it)

   A couple things to note: 1) This DOES come with the applicator sponge, which wasn't mentioned on the product page when I ordered, so I bought one separately I never used. 2) I found I needed to press down and twist to get enough powder on the sponge. 3) The 45-day return policy is from when you ORDER, not from when you receive it. I was on the fence about the product until some hot days outside when it was clear it didn't work.

5. Messy and didn't work all day

   I was very hopeful when I purchased this. I will say it definitely helped with the moisture but I don't struggle with that, mine is smell. And after a few hours I could tell it wore off. I also have to mention it is VERY messy. I have powder all over my dresser. I'm sure this works for some people, but it wasn't for me sadly.

   Opened like a smoke canister w powder flying up after the smallest crack open. Also why make something with the intent of sustainability and use up countless jars only filling to a quarter of its capacity?

   I really was hopeful based on the person that advertised it but it didn't keep me from smelling within a few hours and it is so messy. I got the blue tansy and cherry blossom. My favorite scent is the cherry blossom. I will keep using them until they run out but unfortunately I have to put my other deodorant on also.

   I was really hopeful that this product would work for me. I usually have to have a stronger deodorant/antiperspirant. After two days of constant use, my pits started to stink. When they stink, my clothing starts to smell. When that happens, it takes several washings, dry cleaning or new clothes. I guess that I am in that 5% of people who can't be helped. Thank you for providing samples to try so I don't waste my money. I will say that it keeps "the girls" dry! Thanks!
